Oh NOES! Common People Party: LA DERNIERE!

So apparently next Wednesday's Common People Party at the Batofar is going to be the LAST Common People Party ever. Which means I need to find a new monthly/weekly Parisian soirée to follow.

Playing live are LaViolette, who just played La Flèche. They sound pretty good and have a few upcoming shows (en France, bien sûr):

14 March Le VIP Room(Soirée Trend)- Paris, France
19 March Le Batofar (Soirée Common People Party) - Paris, France
22 March La Flèche d'Or - Paris, France
27 March Le Sirius - Lyon, France
5 April Gala Dauphine - Paris, France
15 April L'Heretic - Bourdeaux, France

*sigh* I'm really going to miss the awesome party fliers....

Common People Party + I Am Un Chien !!

I don't live in Paris anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't pretend I live in Paris (or that I won't be back one day), and I'm always so intrigued by the Common People Party's posters that I've decided just to stick with announcing them here anyway. (When it comes to music scenes, I am a citizen of the world- I have no true hometown, no home scene, just bands that I like in cities that I like. Or so I feel.)

Anyway. Cette semaine au Batofar (you think they could have kicked off this soiree thing when I was actually living 15 minutes from le Batofar?):

Up this week, the dudes of I Am Un Chien !! ("I Am A Dog!!" for those not initiated in franglais.)

The boys of Stuck in the Sound have always had seemingly good connections with I Am Un Chien, though I only just figured out why: one half of Chien is David Fontao- that is, frontman-of-Stuck Jose Reis Fontao's brother. (The other half is Doug Cavanna. And a dog named Baptiste.)

Alors, David (avec les specs):

Et Jose:

And since I support anything and everything having to do with JRF (who, by the way, makes my shortlist of "Totally Bangable Rockstars," nevermind that his band is fucking good), I support these guys. Besides, it's more dirty French electro-rock, and we all know how much I like that stuff.

Go listen to "Grunge" (featuring JRF) on their 'Space.
If you're in the city of lights this weekend, head to the big red boat in the 13th on Friday night or la Fleche and see them play.

Common People Party + WAT (not WAS).

Ce soir au Batofar:

Looks like good times. Makes me slightly upset that I only went to Batofar once in the whole year I was in Paris, considering it was a 15-minute walk from my apartment.

I was just going to post the flyer and be done with it, but then I went in search of the possibly tastelessly-named We Are Terrorists, or WAT. (Not WAS. Don't get confused.)

You pretty much have to hand it to any band that would not only name themselves something like We Are Terrorists, but make songs entitled "Ground Zero" and "Emergency 911," plus make a music video in which they plan to blow up some stuff in order to get more press. Also, they look like this:

Don't worry- Ben and Nico aren't out to terrorize you so much as to terrorize music in general. ("We are sound terrorists, we place bass bomb everywhere we go!") Think of a more fuzzed-out Daft Punk, a pop and Eurodance base layered with distorted bass and vocals in French and English. Tell me somehow that their remix of Revolte's "Ironical Sexism" don't make you want to get up and dance.

They're pretty funny guys, to boot, the sort that make serious dance tunes but don't necessarily take themselves seriously. (Q: Do you have a secret fantasy? Nico: I'm married, so I'm not allowed to have fantasies.) Really, if you get past the blowing-shit-up bit, that video is pretty hilarious. ("I'll be there in two seconds!" and then he shows up with bubbles still in his hair. Ha! Classic.) Not forgetting their blatant self-promotion with cheekily-titled tunes such as "Achete Mes Disques" ("Buy My Discs") and "Blast Mon Blog" ("Blast My Blog"). This, my friends, is self-whoring, dirty French electrorock done right, so you might want to take some notes, kids.

WAT - Achete Mes Disques
Revolte - Ironical Sexism (WAT Remix)

You can achete le disque de WAT, Don't Panic, ici.
They'll be at Batofar tonight, and La Loco in the 18th on 28 February. (Not that any of you live in Paris or anything.)
